Review of Day Fever - HORIZON
I love the concept but the music just wasn't for me. I don't mind a bit of cheese but it was like a wedding reception. I would've preferred more 90s/00s dance and indie. The key demographic is aging ravers after all!
Venue was ok with pretty quick service at the bar, but the over engineered cloakroom system was just daft.

Music was often great, maybe missing some â90s dance bangers. The venue was fine apart from the awful cloakroom system and the mixed loos (which should be separate men and women).

Review of Road to Rocks - HORIZON
Hi
I am probably one of the oldest clubbers in town, being 79 (yes, 79!!). I am a good mover and love to dance. I mainly do partner dancing, Modern Jive. (I am a good lead). This is the generic name, although Ceroc is the main franchise. I can do Ballroom as well. However, I DO LOVE TRANCE, HOUSE, TECHNO, MAIN STREAM (CAPITAL DANCE/CENTRE FORCE TYPE MUSIC). Unfortunately, for my age group there are no venues for this. Most Over 30s discos tend to be 60s to 80s "party, party" stuff which, for me, is BORING! I like to FEEL the music and "get lost in it"! When the young people can see that I have rhythm and varied choreography, they appreciate what I do and, often want to dance with me. This can be "dance offs" with the guys and, occasionally, partner dance with the gals if they can be led (dance wise!).
If I go with my "part time" girlfriend (71yo) we sometimes do Ceroc to some tracks and rewarded with applause, or circles around us. I NEVER make a move on a gal, for fear of being seen as "sleazy." I'm not there to "pull," just DANCE! Realistically, why would a young woman want with a bald guy old enough to be their Granddad or, in some cases, their Great Grandad?! If they want to dance with me, it's their move. Sometimes I get my bum felt by a gal, especially when wearing my "white outfit," although I see this as a compliment rather than a sexual assault! Before I retired, I was a lecturer in FE, teaching the 16 to 19 YOs, so I am comfortable with young people and never had any "trouble" or negative vibes. Although I "stick out" I feel comfortable and accepted. As a competent, confident dancer I don't feel self-conscious any more.
I say the above to put my review in context (i.e. from an "Old Geezer"). Horizon is re-named from Shooosh and the Honey club. It has one of the largest dance floors compared with other clubs under the Kings Road (Arches), and most other Brighton clubs. Of course, Pryzm's main "room" is the largest in Brighton. I went on an Ibiza night and expected Ibiza music all night. However, the first two hours was devoted to softer beats similar to Hip Hop, which I find BORING (along with Drum and Base). At 1am a new DJ started the Ibiza (Rocks) style music and my dancing started! It was a good set and what I wanted, although the two hour wait was very annoying. Staff and security (bouncers) were friendly. The crowd was OK. I guess most were Straight although there were one or two openly Gay/Lesbian couples. Like most clubs, at present, it was not capacity with plenty of room to dance. Brighton's nightlife seems quiet at this time. Students used to be a mainstay but they are few. Perhaps this is due to financial hardship but the Council is perhaps killing the night life with expensive parking and Traffic Wardens fleecing victims up to midnight! If you like the genre music, it is a good club.

Review of MONACO | Reggaeton VS Afro Beats | Fridays | Horizon Brighton
Arrived way before the time the ticket advertised, queued for 2 hrs then told we were too late and couldn't use our free tickets and it would now be £7...rude staff member on door, security were good. If you ever get a pre-12 entry ticket, make sure to start queuing at 8 to avoid disappointment ;)
