5 February 2012

It was a cold, cold Friday afternoon and all I could really think of was getting home, lighting a fire and settling down with some comfort food. But I had booked tickets for me and my four year old daughter to go and see 'Wee Folk' a musically themed story telling event in the Penn Room of the Friends Meeting House. When we arrived the venue was warm (hurrah) and welcoming with cups of tea or coffee available for the bargain price of 60p. Not bad. So drink in hand, daughter toileted we took our seats. The show started a little late but once under way we emersed ourselves in the jolly, fast paced stories and songs. The 'storyteller' was Ali Morgan who incidentally also runs the Wee Folk Sunday afternoons at the Black Swan pub. (A highly recommended afternoon for kiddies and grown ups alike!) She was dressed as a pirate which my daughter loved, particularly the stripy red and white tights. Actually I rather liked those myself! The 'show' was completely interactive, children were encouraged to sing along, hold puppets and play along, using the plentiful instruments which were provided. The children were enthralled as we tripped through pirate songs, animal songs (Chicken Licken even had a happy ending!) and a delightful cheering up the 'Boo Hoo' baby song. The grown ups also wholeheartedly enjoyed singing along, toe tapping, not to mention a little foot stamping. The hour flew by and before I knew it it was time to face the cold once more and make a dash for the car park before I got a ticket! (I did make it in time you'll be happy to hear!) It was a truly wonderful way to round off the week and I'm thoroughly looking forward to the next storytelling event.
