This weekend sees Manchester's longest running weekly club night, Funkademia, celebrate its 17th birthday.

17 years since it all began, the much loved club night still packs out its Mint Lounge home week in, week out - with its winning blend of soul, funk and disco classics played by a roster of experienced residents and special guests.
To thank its members (17,000 of them and counting) for their loyalty over the years, Funkademia are letting the first 600 members in for free on Saturday. All you need to do is email them in advance to secure your free place.
Providing the birthday soundtrack for the night is David Dunne, who's been a valuable supporter of the night from the start. When Funkademia began in 1995, David was the main man at Manchester Kiss102, where he helped the fledgling night take off by giving it loads of support over the airwaves - so there couldn't be a more fitting guest to headline the main room and take Funkademia back to its roots.
In the Babyfunk room, the enigmatic Trafford Lovething hosts his own Funkademia birthday party, with cake and jelly and everything.
Tickets are £5 advance, but members get in free. Just remember to email in advance for guestlist.
Happy birthday Funkademia!
