Funkademia Celebrates 16 Years Under A Groove

November sees Manchester's longest running weekly club night Funkademia reach the ripe old age of 16, with the help of special guest DJs Graeme Hawley and Disco Mums. 

Week in, week out, Funkademia packs out the decadent underground lair that is The Mint Lounge, feeding a friendly and up for it crowd with with a diet of pure unadulterated soul-funk. 

The city's funkiest night has come a long way since its very first night at The Boardwalk back in 1995, and on November 12th they'll celebrate their sweet 16th with the help of some very special guest DJs.  

Graeme Hawley is best known for playing John Stape in Coronation Street, but what a lot of people don’t know is that he also a fantastic DJ. He’s played for Funkademia over the summer at Wickerman Festival, Ramsbottom Festival and also taken control of their Baby Funk room. Supporting him in the main room will be Funkademia resident Les Croasdaile.

In the Baby Funk room, all female DJ collective Disco Mums will make their Funkademia debut. The Manchester based mums-who-mix will play a vinyl only set of sly gems, treasured classics and disco bombs.

As a special treat the first 100 ticket buyers will receive a limited edition CD of the Funkademia resident DJs' favourite tracks. The other 500 or so will get a limited edition button badge.

We’ve come a long way from our very first night back in the 1995 at the Boardwalk and with the continued support of our 18,000 members we intend to keep on keeping on for a while longer yet.
