GIT Award 2014 launches

We do love a good awards ceremoney here atr Skiddle, and there's one we've takena  shine to in Liverpool. The city's premier new music prize The GIT Award, affectionately known as the  ‘Scouse Mercury Prize,’ returns on Saturday November 16 2013 for its third successive year at LEAF. The event searches for 12 GIT Award shortlisted nominees opens today ahead of the special showcase ceremony at The Kazimier next year, on Friday 11 April (watch the video for this year's award below). 

The GIT Award was started to spotlight and celebrate new emerging talent within Merseyside’s eclectic arts and music community, pushing innovative musicians right across the world. The overall winner of the GIT Award 2014 will receive a cash prize of £1000 when revealed at the Kazimier next April.

There is also a special Inspiration Award, which goes to recognise significant outstanding achievement in Merseyside’s music industry will also be presented. The award has picked up special praise form senior music industry figures, including Matt Wilkinson, New Music Editor at NME, who said:

"The Liverpool music scene is as thriving and eclectic as it's ever been, but it's vital The GIT Award recognises the artists who are striving to make such a difference. Once again I'm proud that NME is playing our part in the Award process."
