Kendal Calling Arena Focus: Glow

As Boutique festivals go, Kendal Calling is up there with the best of them. Nestled deep inside the Lake District, this year the live music veers between the strutting rock of Primal Scream, carnival house of Basement Jaxx and the apocalyptic hip-hop of Public Enemy, with loads more assembled in Lowther Deer Park.

It’s in Glow though where we are shedding an insight into now, the festival’s Dance music arena which has a wide reaching ensemble of artists playing. There’s high octane drum and bass from Roni Size, Load Star and Grooverider, whilst the breakbeats slow down for Elite Force, A Skillz & Krafty Kuts and a special Dub Pistols DJ set.

There’s dubstep as well from Oneman and one of the genre’s pioneers, Artwork of Magnetic Man, whilst Fake Blood and Jackmaster ensure there’s a fuller throttle reinterpretation of the four four thud in amongst the bass driven sonics. UK hip-hop stalwarts Foreign Beggars also add a live feel to the arena with their beats and braggadocio.

Our pick though is Lancastrian brothers Bondax, whose mesmerising mixture of bass music, shuffling snares and pop has been on heavy rotation throughout the summer at Skiddle HQ. Their track ‘Baby I got that’ is sunshine in a can, and guaranteed to make you want to revel in the weekend.
