With nights like Cocoon, A Desolat Experience, Cadenza, Crosstown Rebels and Ostgut Ton and with residencies from the likes of Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Maya Jane Coles and Julio Bashmore, there is most certainly a tech house theme to the Warehouse Project line ups this year.

Warehouse regulars got their first real taste of this tonight at Welcome to the Warehouse, and close inspection confirmed that this was definitely an experienced project crowd.

We walk through the hallowed arches of the Store Street warehouse into the main room where relative new girl Maya Jane Coles has got things underway. I use the term ‘relative new girl’ very loosely as Maya hasn’t been around long but in the last year or so she has smashed as many dance floors at some of the biggest clubs and festivals in the world as a lot of DJs will do in a lifetime. We only catch the last half hour or so of her set but still it’s enough to get a feel of her signature deep tech sound. A slight disappointment was that she didn’t play her remix of Little Dragon – Ritual Union at the end of the set with the beat seemingly perfect for her to drop it in. Ah well, can’t have everything!

Visionquest

Visionquest are the most innovative and exciting new breed of DJs/producers to come out of Detroit in a generation. I was expecting things to progress down the deep and soulful path when Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtis took centre stage but was pleasantly surprised when they played a more progressive set, which got more and more pounding as it stormed its way into Marco Carola’s set.

Marco is now firmly established as one of the world’s premiere techno DJs and he does not disappoint tonight taking things to a whole new level with consistent drops. The room was wall to wall with party people by this point making it a bit like dancing on the underground at rush hour. A few steps back and we have plenty more room to enjoy ourselves.

We leave before the end but not before a quick chill out and a venture into the second room where Julio Bashmore is tearing the place apart. The options for the night are Room 1: tech, Room 2: tech, just how we like it. Bring on Cox and Vath on the 21st!
