Chemtrails began as the lo-fi bedroom recording project of lovers Mia Lust and Laura Orlova, evolving into a 5-piece garage-punk and acid-corroded new-wave outfit in 2016. Soon after, Chemtrails were signed by Swedish label PNKSLM Recordings, and have since gained a reputation for their prolific DIY output and high-energy shows.
Following on from three 6-song EPs and their high-octane debut album - which drew the attention of the likes of Stereogum, KEXP, Line of Best Fit and DIY - Chemtrails released their second LP, The Peculiar Smell of the Inevitable, in May 2020, which was touted as their heaviest, wildest and weirdest record yet.
The band’s biggest influences are Pixies, Blondie, Oh Sees, Black Lips and sixties garage punk, but holding everything together is an ear for melody and no shortage of hooks, with cryptic lyrics that center around alienation, love, the human condition, the impending apocalypse and occasionally on Mia Lust’s place in the world as a transgender woman.
