Biography

Diesel’s career began in the halcyon days of the mid 80’s ‘Rare Groove’ era spinning tracks in West London bars and discos before finally getting his DJ break in ‘86 when Gilles Peterson added him to his support line-up to play straight-ahead jazz, Latin and soul. In 1988, Diesel was bitten by the House Music bug and together with friend and DJ partner Rocky, they became the dance scene’s first DJ duo, Rocky & Diesel.

The duo were regulars at Danny Rampling’s Shoom Club and inspired by the musical vibe, they soon branched out with their eclectic sets and all things Balearic gaining major respect from DJ peers and the public alike. Their presence was requested at Terry Farley’s legendary Boys Own parties with Boy’s Own boss Terry Farley and Andrew Weatherall at the controls. From ‘89 until ’91, Rocky & Diesel ran their own Yellow Book club night at the Gardening Club in London’s Covent Garden. In 1992, Terry Farley invited Ashley Beedle to join the duo and named them X-press 2. Their subsequent releases on Junior Boys Own Records including ‘Muzik X-press’ are considered to be the bedrock of UK House Music which the trio took around the world. The 90s & 00s were a blur of guest spots and residencies at the most influential dance spots of the day, Ministry of Sound, Back to Basics, Cream and beyond - Ibiza, U.SA & South America, the Far East, Japan and Australasia. Working with David Byrne from ‘Talking Heads’ in 2002 propelled the trio onto Top of the Pops and into the global charts with their dance collaboration ‘Lazy’ which, to this day, remains in the nation’s psyche.

Other projects have included the Ballistic Brothers & Yellow Sox and Diesel currently runs Moton Records Inc. along with label partner, long-time friend + fellow Heavy Disco DJ, Dave Jarvis. Diesel can also be heard sporadically broadcasting on http://www.know-wave.com/
