Based in Aberdeen and with rock influences such as Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Van Halen, AC/DC and Bon Jovi, Estrella are an energetic rock four piece – a trio of brothers Paul Gunn (Frontman) Luke Gunn (Lead Guitarist) and Nathan Gunn (Bass) plus Leo McPherson (Drums) - who are planning a busy year – with a European Tour, new single and second album release all before June 2015!
Testament to Estrella’s growing popularity they have been asked to support Enuff Z'Nuff on their upcoming European tour in May, secured a slot at this years Wildfire Festival (Diamond Head, Tygers of Pan Tang, Ten, ColdSpell, The Amorettes) and previously support LA Guns, Phil Lewis as part of his UK tour in January this year. In 2014 they supported The Answer and carried out a 29 date European Tour (13 different countries) with Robin Beck and House of Lords in March/April 2014. They have been creating a buzz within the rock festival communities too and gained a reputation for putting on a bristling live show, that plays on a fictional "sibling rivalry", yet remaining professional at all times. Festivals have included Hard Rock Hell (HRH) VI, HRH AOR, HRH Ibiza, Kelso Bike Fest and Scotland’s Les-Fest (now Wildfire Festival.)
Estrella’s debut album Come Out to Play (released 2012) was co-written and produced by John T Sinclair (ex-keyboard player for Uriah Heep, The Cult and the Ozzy Osbourne band). It was engineered by Ashley Howe (Queen, Led Zeppelin) and mastered by Grammy award winning Richard Dodd (Uriah Heep, Freddie Mercury, Green Day).
Their second album - due in June 2015 - has been overseen by producer Nick Brine (The Darkness, Bruce Springsteen, Thunder, Oasis) and has seen pre-production and mastering duties taken up by Pete Shoulder (The Union), Luke Morley (Thunder, The Union) and Pete Mayer (Rolling Stones, U2, Killers, Jack White, Katy Perry, The Killers). High calibre names who are extremely picky about who they work with.
Estrella’s choice of recording studio is another nod to the band’s professional approach to their music. Recording for the second album is taking place at the infamous Rockfield Studios in Wales which is steeped in musical history since 1965 playing host to the likes of Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Royal Blood, The Darkness and it’s where Queen recorded ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
It’s an approach that has won them many fans, including Classic Rock Magazine and XFM presenters including Tom Russell and noted music tastemaker Jim Gellatly.
