Biography

Equal parts primitive brutality and mind-bending psychedelia, Kurokuma bring a freshness to the doom/sludge sound with their percussive focus and mantra-like songwriting.

The band was formed in late 2013 by guitarist/vocalist Jacob Mazlum and drummer Joe Allen in Sheffield, England, with George Ionita soon being brought into the mix on bass.

The band spent a year crafting their nascent sound, releasing a self-titled demo in 2014 which earned them support slots with the likes of Conan, Samothrace and Skeletonwitch.

The following two years found Kurokuma relentlessly attacking the live circuit. This laid down the groundwork for their first EP, ‘Advorsus’, released in September 2016 on Medusa Crush Records.

Grinding their way through 2017 and starring in the indie documentary film ‘The Doom Doc’, Kurokuma hit 2018 hard with a tour of Japan supporting Conan, followed by a 4/20 show in Reykjavik, Iceland.

August 2018 saw the release of the much-anticipated ‘Dope Rider’ concept EP. This was accompanied by an Eastern European tour, including an appearance at the notorious Brutal Assault festival in the Czech Republic.

The rest of 2018 had Kurokuma on a series of tours, broadening their fan-base and bolstering their reputation as one of the fiercest live acts in the scene.

2019 sees the band’s star continue to rise as a new release and an appearance at Desertfest London emerge on the horizon. Hungry and uncompromising, Kurokuma remain committed to their ferocious ascent.
