Paul Sadler is best known as vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for acclaimed UK based progressive metal act Spires, as well as vocalist and guitarist for Anglo-German cinematic progressive rock act Haven of Echoes.
After releasing three full-length albums to widespread critical acclaim, Spires went on an extended hiatus in 2019. Wasting no time, Paul released his debut solo album ‘Soon To Be Absorbed’ in December 2020, receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews from both print and web media, including being awarded album of the month by the editor of Prog Magazine, Jerry Ewing. Self-produced and self-released, it is a captivating album that is at once surprising and highly varied, with moments of heavy rock and even metal punctuating folk inspired acoustic passages, with a progressive edge throughout.
In 2022 Paul started performing live again under the guise of the Paul Sadler Trio, an acoustic outfit featuring guitar, violin and cello.
Thus the idea for ‘The Irrational EP’ was born. Featuring four new songs, with a heavy reliance on strings and acoustic guitar, the EP is released on 7th February 2025. With extra instrumentation on several songs, including drums, percussion, piano, fretless bass and several guest vocalists. Inevitably leaning more heavily into its folk stylings, the songwriting however consistently retains Paul's unmistakeable signature, always with a focus on the emotional impact of the music, and a reliance on the unexpected and unpredictable.
