Biography

---

Royals started in 2019, the band has already seen the release of two EPs, two covers and nine music videos.

Founding members Luke Smithson (vocals) and Alex Baker (guitar/drums) began writing after a previous project ended, before recruiting Will Sherlock (guitar/vocals) through what we like to call "Tinder for Musicians".

After a stint as a four-piece in which their debut EP 'Painted Gold' was released, they got off to a quick start building a following both online and in their hometown, allowing them to begin to play several tours and shows around the UK, receiving positive feedback on their sound, set-up and energetic presence, and drawing comparisons to the likes of pop-punk heavyweights State Champs, All Time Low and Neck Deep.

2020-2021 saw an interesting line-up change with the introduction of Tom Guildford (bass) and Tom Trowbridge (drums), Royals becoming a five-piece in the process. This was followed by the gradual, albeit delayed (what wasn't that year though, right?), release of our second EP 'A Spark To Ignite', recorded with Neck Deep's Seb Barlow - containing their most popular songs to date. They landed the first two singles 'Fair-Weather Friend' and 'Out of Reach' in Spotify playlists such as Pop Punks Not Dead and New Punk Tracks, meaning their music began to be heard all over the world, earning them spots on Alt Press lists 'Top 10 Rising UK Pop Punk Bands' and '13 Artists who are reclaiming the pop-punk music scene in 2021'.

Those years also saw the increase in radio play with Alex Baker (DJ, not our guitarist) fulfilling childhood dreams by premiering Worldwide Catastrophe on Kerrang! Radio, whilst Idobi Radio in the US and VoiceFM locally have had the entire EP rotating heavily since it's release.

2021 ended with a cover of the years most popular song - Justin Bieber & The Kid Laroi's 'Stay', which only raised their presence further and began to break them onto the pop punk TikTok scene.

2022 got off to a flying start, they changed things up and collaborated with their befriended band "Two Year Break" which resulted in their first, more heavier sounding track, ''Double Life'' before running on tour together.

This resulted to led them been able working with new producers in Jon Lundin (Point North) and Grant Berry (All Time Low, Stand Atlantic) on their new singles "Home" and "Let Me Go", seeing the latter premiere on BBC Introducing for the first time followed by additional airplay on Radio 1, taking another step forward in their journey as one of the countries most exciting up and coming bands.

2023 sees them heading out on their biggest UK tour to date in support of US artists The Dollyrots and Don't Panic, just to keep touring again for the second time in 2023, but this time on their first own headline tour with Autumn Fires.
