Biography

Alex Wolfenden has over 20 years of experience in the music industry.

He began his career warming up in the famous Annexe room at Cream, in his hometown of Liverpool at the age of 18.

Whilst studying music production in Leeds, from 2001 - 2003, he managed the infamous Playmusic record shop. From 2004 he helped produce for Yousef’s Carioca record label, whilst also resident DJ for Circus in Liverpool. In this time he engineered music for artists including: Paul Woolford, Steve Mac, and Nic Fanciulli. He also worked on remix projects for Fat Boy Slim, Ian Brown & Carl Cox.

In 2006 Alex moved to Ibiza and became resident at sunset institution, Cafe Mambo. In 2007 he recorded a special sunset BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, which received critical acclaim and is still admired today. The following year he also became resident for We Love… Sundays at Space and recorded regular radio shows for Ministry Radio and Galaxy Radio. During this time Alex also compiled, produced and mixed three extremely successfully Mambo compilations that ended up selling out worldwide.

In 2013, Alex opened a new chapter, beginning Acid Mondays - a duo formed with his long time friend, Dan Ward. They released on R&S Records, and they co-produced a release with Nightmares on Wax for Warp Records. Their music has received support from Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Pete Tong, and Annie Mac. Alex has regularly toured Australasia, America, South America, and Europe, playing regularly at Fabric London, Warung Brazil, Output NY and DC10 Ibiza where he is still resident.

Alex's started at Openlab Radio in 2014, having been hand-picked by the station's founder Robert Miles, who became a strong mentor for Alex and his music. He began to host his own show Quantum Sonics, which is an exploration into cutting edge experimental electronica, while also helping curate the music for the station. Alex is now the Musical Director for Openlab and has been integral to the sound and vision of the station. His knowledge and relationships within the industry are widely known and he is a well-loved, respected artist and member of the worldwide music community. In this time he has helped Openlab grown into the forward-thinking radio station that millions know and love today.
