Born and raised in the land of fire and ice, Icelandic guitarist A.P Stefans leads Merseyside's newest contemporary jazz ensemble. An eclectic mix of accomplished musicians from across the region, the A.P Stefans Quintet is an unconventional and experimental instrumental outfit featuring Guitar (A.P Stefans) and Trombone (Simeon Scheuber) and a three piece rhythm section; made up of Birgir Fannar Guðmundsson (keys), Jonny Knight (bass) and Eden Longson (drums).
A.P. Stefans's unique compositions fuse together the melodic echoes of Mersey-beat with an explosive, holiday-ruining, volcanic ash cloud of Icelandic jazz. Each member of the quintet brings their own personal, musical experience to each performance with improvisation at the centre of the ensemble's culture. Whether it's the Be-bop flavoured sounds of 'Augmented Reality' or the rhythmical irregularity of the '11:16 Train to Reykjavík' the A.P Stefáns Quintet will take you on a musical journey with a repertoire that is as diverse and cheeky as its members.
