Biography

Spinning multi-layered soundscapes from a singular violin line, Rebekah Reid has become known for combining virtuosic violin performance with live looping and electronics. Effortlessly blending influences from jazz, classical music, world music, folk and electronic dance music, Reid's trademark cinematic sound has garnered support from BBC 6 Music's Lauren Laverne and Cerys Matthews.

Rebekah's debut solo album ‘Selected Works Vol.1’ was originally commissioned by BBC Sounds and BBC Radio 4 for the critically acclaimed series '28ish Days Later'. The BBC podcast was included in Apple Podcasts ‘Top 5 shows of 2022’ and Amazon Music Best Podcasts 2023. ‘Selected Works Vol.1’ (released independently in September 2023) was well received, garnering critical acclaim, with reviews in The Guardian and Financial Times. The album went viral on social media, amassing 4 million total views on Instagram, and was included on the longlist for the 66th GRAMMY® Awards.

Reid has taken her live violin and loop pedal set across the UK, with notable performances at Kings Place, the Portico Library supporting Matana Roberts, the Royal Albert Hall in 2019 and 2021, and Shambala Festival 2024 - Sankofa Stage. She has had spotlight articles in The Strad and Jazzwise Magazine, and appeared in Vogue with Jorja Smith, Griff and the Chineke! Orchestra in August 2023. Reid has featured as a guest on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Add to Playlist’ with Cerys Matthews and Jeffrey Boayke, ‘This Classical Life’ with Jess Gillam, Lauren Laverne's breakfast show on BBC 6 Music and Soho Radio with Max Reinhardt. Her compositions have had spins on BBC Radio 3 (Petroc Trelawny Breakfast Show, Late Junction, Elizabeth Alker, Linton Stephens and the J to Z Show), BBC 1Xtra (Jamz Supernova) and BBC 6 Music (Moses Boyd sit in for Guy Garvey).

Reid has recorded on albums for major artists such as Nubya Garcia, Celeste, NAO, DJ Spoony, Elena Urioste and Alicia Keys; and recorded on commercial and film sessions for London Contemporary Orchestra (LCO) and Prada. She regularly performs and tours the UK and international stages with orchestras and bands, including Soul II Soul on their 2022-2024 UK tour, North America with the Chineke! Orchestra in 2023, Angelique Kidjo for EFG London Jazz Festival 2023, Stormzy at the 2023 Brit Awards, BBC Proms with Chineke! and Celeste at the 2021 Mercury Awards.

Alongside her solo career, Reid is also bandleader and manager of Täpp - an experimental loop pedal music collective showcasing musicians and artists from across the UK.
