Camel Island are a fresh four piece indie/alternative rock outfit from South Shields UK consisting of William Gofton [Lead vocals/guitarist], Dan Taylor [Lead guitarist/backing vocals], Jay Morris [Bassist] and Alex Lipanov [Drummer]. Their sound fuses Foo Fighters-esque walls of guitars, with dissonant intertwining melodies reminiscent of Radiohead, sprinkled with layers of harmonies, inspired by The Beatles and The Police.
Growing up together, the lads developed a keen interest in music and formed a band at 14. After years of relentlessly practising twice a week in William’s garage, they built up their confidence and took on the local pubs and small venues of South Shields whilst simultaneously building a catalogue of original material.
The band burst onto the North East music scene in February 2023 with their debut single ‘Autopilot’ and have since made a name for themselves in the area, playing at the likes of The Cluny, Independent, Bobiks, etc. All four of their currently available singles have featured on BBC Introducing North East and various other radio shows, with 'Stalling' winning single of the year on the SPARK radio local music show.
2024 is a promising year for Camel Island, now that they have found their feet, with lots of big, exciting opportunities lined up already.
