City of Manchester Opera was originally formed in 1998, and is a Registered Charity. Though based in Manchester, we draw our audiences from a large area of the North West of England. Our aim is to encourage as wide a range of people as possible to access opera through our public performances. We perform throughout the region in many of its large and small venues, in some very well-known places and some not so well known, and for a variety of people. Several years ago the Lord Mayor of Manchester granted us permission to use Manchester in our title to reflect the company’s strong association with the City. We feel proud to be part of its wonderful heritage. COMO was nominated for a NODA 2017 Award in 4 categories, and again in 4 categories in 2018.
Audiences are delighted by COMO’s performances, sharing comments on social media such as ‘Excellent and beautiful concert’; ‘A really good concert’; ‘Excellent! Fabulous concert – an unexpected delight’; ‘Good concert. I enjoyed the varied programme’. Critics have said ‘the calibre of the singing was nothing short of an exceptional treat.’ ‘I thank you for opening a new door for me and I look forward to your future performances.’
