Perhaps one of the most passionate players in dubstep, Datsik has become one of the biggest DJs and producers to have pioneere the North American take on the genre.
“
"I think dubstep has become so huge because it’s a complete bastardization of electronic music. “There’s a little bit of everything thrown in the mix and dirtied up. There are pieces of hip-hop, the bass from electronic dance tracks and the roots of U.K. garage and drum & bass…, dubstep is totally the punk rock of electronic music.”"
The British Columbia native grew up a hardcore rap fan, and is still heavily influenced by classic Wu-Tang Clan joints, which can be readily seen in his heavy, aggressive productions.
Datsik'’s darkly futuristic dubstep destroyers blew up across the scene almost immediately, racking up a series of seven number one slots on Beatport, at at one point had five of the ten tunes on their bestsellers chart. He’'s been no strange to topping charts though, with Juno, Red Eye and Chemical Records all seeing his tunes flying off their shelves.
Now signed to Steve Aoki's Dim Mak records, Datsik has released a full album entitled Vitamin D in which he collaborated with everyone from Isralei psytrancers Infected Mushroom to Korn's Jonathan Davis, as well as a host of well received singles.
Next to manic dubstep tracks like the menacing “Napalm” featuring rapper Messenian, the grimy, hip hop swagger of DJ Z-Trip collaboration “Double Trouble” and the devastating first single “Fully Blown” with rapper Snack the Ripper, Datsik'’s debut album has already set a new standard in the wild world of dubstep. Loaded with bone-rattling beats and enough energy to power the Vegas Strip, Vitamin D become the benchmark dubstep album of 2012.
Datsik's live shows have already become legendary, making him in demand from Ibiza to America, and right across Europe, which is probably why Datsik has been nominated as Best DJ in the 2013 Bass Music Awards in association with Skiddle. The future is very bright indeed for the young Canadian.
