When Double Barrel shot to the top of the British charts back in 1971, It was at the very dawn of what was to become reggae music & the beginning of the Skinhead movement and played a major part in shaping the genre.
Dave sings many different types of music Soul, Ska & Reggae are all in his repertoire; he is a well-respected and talented singer/songwriter. Dave Barker is one of the few that virtually all of today’s artistes would love to be able to say “I’ve shared a stage with”.
Dave & Ansell Collins released the monster track, Double Barrel, in 1971 and it shot to the top of the U.K. charts. The follow up single to Double Barrell, Monkey Spanner, also reached the upper reaches of the U.K. charts and cemented Dave & Ansell’s Collins position in the Reggae hall of fame.
Dave over the years has worked with & recorded for the likes of, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Duke Reid, Bunny Lee, Sly Dunbar and, Harry J to name a few, while he was with Lee Perry he recorded Prisoner of love and Shocks Almighty and worked with The Wailers and recorded Don’t let the sun catch you crying with them. Dave also went on to recorded for Lloyd Charmers (of Birth Control fame) with a great cover of the Temptations classic track just my Imagination.
In 1971 Dave decided to leave Jamaica and settle for a life in England, after just four months in the U.K. he returned to Jamaica to record the tracks for the Double Barrel album then returned to England to complete the promotional tour and this time stayed. Dave has also recorded for the Iconic reggae label Trojan records.
