Biography

DJ MDA has been DJing for 27 years. He started out at the age of 14 after spending hours listening to pirate radio stations. He became so fascinated by the whole concept of DJing that his parents bought him his first set of decks which was an all-in-one setup by Citronic that came in its own case. He began to spend hours buying records and practicing on his decks, and started playing at family parties. Through listening to pirate radio MDA got hooked on the sounds of Electro and Hip Hop, and then on to the sounds of Acid and Chicago house. He started to frequent the rave scene by going to illegal house parties, and then going to events such as Sunrise, Biology, Raindance, Spiral Tribe to name but a few.

He got so caught up in the whole scene he decided he wanted to play out, and thought by getting on pirate radio he could live out his dream. He chose a simple DJ name, his initials, and started to send off demo tapes to pirate radio stations. He was lucky enough to be approached by Friends FM who were based in Leyton to play on their station and at their parties.

As the whole dance scene progressed and changed so did MDA’s music tastes. He began to play more Hardcore, Jungle and Garage, and had a couple of residencies in local bars near to his home in North London. In the late nineties MDA had tired of the scene as it had changed so much and he didn’t like what it had become, and decided to take a break.

Forward to 2011 and he had a chance meeting on the stage at a Labrynth reunion party with Missy Woo-Woo. After meeting up a few times he discovered that Missy had just got her first set of 1210s and was looking at learning to mix. This then lead to MDA’s passion for DJing to be reignited. They started dating and would spend their weekends searching records shops for the music they had both fell in love with. In 2013 MDA was asked to do a joint radio show with Missy Woo-Woo on Club Labrynth Radio, which was a new internet radio station that Joe Wieczorek of Labrynth was involved in. This then got him his chance to play at the legendary Labrynth, which was a club he had spent a lot of time in when its home was at the 4 Aces in Dalston.

Since being on the radio MDA’s confidence in music has excelled once again and he is looking forward to what it will bring next.
