Emma King’s blossoming music career has already taken her from Northern England to Tennessee, touring Europe and receiving 5-star album reviews along the way. Now making waves in the UK, Emma is back with a brand new album of irresistible Soul music that captures her awe-inspiring vocals and vibrant character.
It may be rare for a girl from Kingston-Upon-Hull to fall for a love of American Roots and Soul music, but there may be a natural affinity between the two places’ hardworking values that gave Emma King a feeling of ‘home’.
Natural talent and non-stop dedication led Emma to early success in England, from the age of 12 she toured UK-wide, appeared on ITV, & numerous radio publication whilst balancing school life & singing old school Elvis.
After putting in the hard yards early on, Emma saw the benefits when she was awarded a scholarship by Carleen Anderson (God Daughter of James Brown/Singer of Brand New Heavies) to attend the Brighton Insititue of Modern Music - an education that would not have been possible without the award.
Emma formed the band 'Emma King and The Heartsets' after moving to London in 2007 and began work on their Americana-tinged debut album' Life Under Lights' (called “stunning” and rated 5/5 by Maverick Magazine in 2009). The album release revolved around 3 years of independent touring of the UK and Germany and in 2010 the band landed a record deal with Nashville’s Label of the Year 2009 winner 'PLC Records', the band also returned to the UK to undertake BBC Radio Tours & performances.
While stationed in America Emma toured the states of Tennessee, Texas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Michigan, Florida amongst others, appeared on PBS network, represented England at the CMA Festival, performed live for the prestigous WSM radio station and gigged with acts such as Exile, Brett Michaels & Rhonda Vincent.
Emma is a favourite and frequent performer at the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville, and in 2014 Emma & friends recorded live at America’s birthplace of Rock N' Roll: Sun Studios in Memphis. Emma's voice has carried across a plethora of stages & studios including The Tracking Room, Downtown Batterie, Sound Kitchen, Dark Horse & Paragon. She has also worked with Grammy award-winning producers including Chas Sandford (John Waite, Stevie Nicks, Chicago), Milan Bogdan (KC and The Sunshine band) Aaron Swihart (Peter Frampton), Jake Nicely (Alison Krauss, Dixie Chicks) and more.
In 2014 she made the decision to return home to England to write, soak up the city & write freely to all willing to listen.
Emma's explosive debut solo album will be available in Spring 2015 – get ready to hear the soul, feel the passion and see Emma at her very best. If there’s one thing that best describes the soul of Emma King. It’s her barefoot stage performance that, in her own words, makes her feel “grounded, connected and alive”.
