Foamo'’s productions and DJ’ing have expanded enormously since his early excursions into drum & bass, grime and the fuzzed-out, piledriving house tracks which first made his name. Discovering dance music as a teenager when a friend lent him a drum & bass tape pack, Foamo was swiftly drawn into the dance music realm, learning to DJ and gradually teaching himself to produce on his parents’ computer.
Having been enamoured with dubstep and grime, it was discovering itchy, jacking tracks by people like Jesse Rose and Switch that drew him across into house music, and since then he’'s been exploring the genre, with his more recent tracks reflecting those origins: sub-bass is hard, punchy and optimised to rattle through the chest; drums are swung to a lean garage flex.
With a recent residency in Ibiza and a growing love of deeper house sounds, his sets have developed an effortlessly cool, infectious and suave style that has resoundingly impressed. These many perspectives all inform his Rinse FM shows, which flit seamlessly from classic UK garage and broken house to deeper, headier excursions. “Even if it’s not always that obvious though, there’s definitely still the UK influence.
"“I'’ve grown up with that kind of vibe. More and more I’m thinking about bringing back some of the old elements of what I used to make – cut up breaks and that drum & bass feel. If I listen to a track and it’s got even a hint of that vibe then I’ll be instantly drawn to it– a lot of the stuff on Hypercolour and Losing Suki where it’s got this garagey, jungly bass."”
His recent work as part of Gorgon City has seen him further push the envelope of his unique sound, with an added distinct deep house vibe that has struck a chord with the current dance music scene. Foamo topped off 2013 with a nomination for the 2013 Bass Music Awards in association with Skiddle.
