Geko is an 18 year old artist of North African descent hailing from Manchester, who started writing raps at just 10 years old. However it wasn’t until two years later at still the tender age of 12 that he started taking music seriously and became the online and youth phenomenon he is now.
Starting out making music and rapping about what matters affected him most, the significant loss of his brother was a life changing point for Geko who admitted that in that period he had to grow up quickly, causing his music style and approach to change.
In his early teens he became affiliated with music group USG, after sending his music to the team which earned him the chance to not only perform all over the country but also to learn and progress musically so early on in his career. His talent and self confidence drew a lot of attention to the young rapper among many UK artists affording him the opportunity to perform an acoustic session with Mic Righteous, Lowkey and Logic at just 14 and collaborate with other artists, such as Jaja Soze, Ard Adz, Sho Shallow and Lady Leshurr.
At 15, Geko joined Charlie Sloth at BBC 1xtra as the youngest person to ever drop a Fire in The Booth and Geko’s tracks were continually supported by the BBC including ‘U Know The Voice’ (his popular slogan at the time) and single ‘Heartless’. Always remaining consistent across his music, mixtapes such as ‘Voice of The Future’ and ‘Thoro in The South’ and most recently an EP were met with an incredible reception both online and at radio.
By 17 Geko had created his own record label One Tape Records. Being of Algerian and Libyan decent he started experimenting with his sound and the afrobeats vibe worked in his favour with his track ‘Baba’ reaching over 3 million views on YouTube. His talent now being recognised across the UK and further showed when videos ‘Love Me’, ‘Ghetto Queen’ and ‘Over & Under’ also reached the million views mark and beyond completely independently!
The One Tape Records YouTube channel itself has reached over an outstanding 14 million views in total and with so much achieved at such a young age it is exciting to see where his career will take him in the years to come.
