Gladboy are an experimental pop trio who formed after meeting at UEA and discovering a shared adoration of music and literature from across space and time. After months of loose jamming sessions centred around Sonny's jazz influenced drumming and George's stream-of-consciousness lyricism, the band recruited Adam Bentham on bass and began to refine their sound. With Adam at the helm as producer, the band recorded their charismatic debut single ‘Weight of Expectation' all in one night. Opening with a glam-infused stomp that progresses into vibrant harmonies followed by a chaotic instrumental passage, ‘Weight of Expectation’ showcases Gladboy’s penchant for both eclecticism and experimentalism. As surrealist as they are brutally honest, the song’s lyrics see George confront an inability to fulfil the expectation and potential that young people are faced with daily. “The band describe their sound as junkadelic, which hits the nail right on the head" - Outline Magazine, 2018.
