Biography

Detroit pair Hugh Cleal and Bryan Jones are Golf Clap, a now well established pair with a distinctive studio sound and just as singular style in the booth. Having played all over the world at esteemed festivals and clubs such as Output in New York, Verboten, Flash, Bar Standard, Movement in Detroit and Electric Forest, they are celebrated for their energetic and impromptu ways: always playing with visible energy across four decks, they are masters of live remixing, of tweaking and layering up effects and of really teasing out the music for maximum impact. They often link with the headliners they play alongside for cheeky back-to-back sessions that prove their versatility and get much talked about, and are also known for throwing their own special parties that often sell out.

Well connected with DJs and dancers all over the globe, Golf Clap are increasingly heading down a techno path and have proved that with standout guest mixes for influential radio hosts like Huxley and Sinden, Tom Shorterz and Low Steppa on Rinse and Kiss FM. They also work closely with Low Steppa’s Simma Black label and in 2016 are busier than ever, with plenty of projects popping off left right and centre. These include a new compilation on their own label Country Club Disco, which is sure to prove their digging credibilities once more. As well this, the duo who so impressed with their slick and expertly paced set on Boiler Room are ramping up the release schedule on their label this year. It will see them put out a wealth of great new solo and collaborative material in the months ahead, and will only prove the point that the ever busier Golf Clap are no longer breaking though, but have in fact now fully climbed to the peak of the underground scene.

With the entire golf world looking to the pair for guidance, they founded Country Club Disco, a record label showcasing the playful yet sophisticated lifestyle of house music artists. It features hand-numbered limited edition vinyl runs, full apparel line, and a hand-picked team of dance floor pros. The label has since been a platform for a series of events that feature top tier artists from around the world.

Poised to shoot for the stars, their brand of humor and antics on and off the course have made them a staple on the PGA tour and in the house music scene. Having such a strong short game, much is to be expected of Golf Clap in the future. With their combination of silky smooth production and peak hour party sets, these gentlemen sure know how to make a crowd bogey down.
