Sam, Josh, and Harvey began jamming covers of songs they all liked in secondary school. The line-up was not standard as they had no bass player - Sam and Josh would alternate between bass and guitar. The writing of original material began after the band’s first gig playing these covers in the Fox and Hounds in Clavering, Essex. Forever Stay Hypnotised was one of these very first tracks originally written by Josh, overtime being collectively written into the song it is now. Other tracks were conceived from the standard rock influences of the likes of Hendrix and The Kinks, gradually Sam and Josh became more exposed to the world of indie after relocating to Cambridge. It was here where artists such as The Velvet Underground and Joy Division became more prominent in the band’s listening interests, with Harvey having always listened to early post – punk bands like The Fall and Talking Heads. After their first big show at the Junction Fiver in Cambridge, James joined as a permanent bass player, to allow Sam and Josh to constantly do what they always had intended to since the band was conceived; rock out on guitars. This shift in lineup also benefited to more expansive composition. Green Dolphin have had three singles to date – Mr Big, Blue, and Forever Stay Hypnotised. All three tracks are set to be on the forthcoming debut album, due to be released in Autumn 2017. The track, Blue, was an explicit giveaway of the band’s political stance, which they incorporate into many songs.
