Grifton Forbes-Amos is one of the latest talents to have emerged from Leeds Conservatoire, and for sure a future UK jazz star in the making. London born and raised, he started playing trumpet aged 10. He happily confesses however that he didn't really start to get heavily into it until he was 18, when he joined Leeds College Of Music (now Leeds Conservatoire).
Once in Leeds, he dived into the city's vibrant DIY jazz/soul/global beats scenes with a passion. He joined global fusion/afro jazz crew TC & The Groove Family, abstract jazz crew Fall Quintet, Latin jazz band Punto Sabor and sat in at DJ Lubi's jazz/hip-hop/soul jam session RE:SOUL. He also has a band in London called KOMA, has played live gigs in the "Black Peril" era ensemble of Soweto Kinch, and recently guested with Tetes de Pois at the first Jazzland Sessions shows in Leeds. And he's still in his early 20s.
Grifton Forbes-Amos Quintet are:
Grifton Forbes-Amos on trumpet/leader, James Akers on tenor saxophone, Jay Verma on piano, Jedidiah Curtis on double bass and Blake Cascoe on drums.
