Brighton 5-piece Half Crown are like musical magpies, collecting shiny pieces of musical treasure as they go and using them to create their upbeat rock/rap gems.
Their official debut single, ‘Start It Up’ sees Half Crown in vintage form. A sing-along anthem with nods to their varied influences (which include Alex Turner, David Bowie, Bee Gees and Andre 3000) which manages to capture their insanely infectious live sound perfectly. Produced by Jez Coad, who is best known for his work alongside legendary Rock n Roll producer Bob Clearmountain (whose credits include The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen), was able to draw from his vast experience to create a radio friendly recording that was big, bold and full of life.
A favourite on the live scene across London, Brighton and the South, the lads have seen a loyal fan base grow solidly over the past 2 years, a feat highlighted by their ability to raise £3k on a recent crowd-funding PledgeMusic campaign, hitting 75% of the target in the first 48 hrs. Coupled with theaccumulative sales of previous hard copies (10k CDs), this fiercely independent band have been able to record, produce and distribute this explosive double A-side single all on their own terms.
The band’s live highlights include performances at Blissfields, main support for Rizzle Kicks (Brighton Dome), main support for The Correspondents (Concorde 2), plus numerous sold out and packed out shows across their home town, twice having platinum selling artist Charlie Winston as main support for the band. Twice played the prestigious ‘Clare May Ball’ (Cambridge Universities annual ball) alongside Ella Eyre, Youth Club, Courts, Annie Mac, Pendulum and JakWob.
This summer they were even asked to play a one off Virgin Festival at Sir Richard Branson’s private residence in Oxford. The powers that be at Virgin Entertainment were so enamoured with the band that they have been invited to play an exclusive show at Virgin HQ which will be ahead of their tour in February 2017.
Other support has come in the form of a Balcony TV session and The Unsigned Music Awards who have championed the band by having them play their London show case at The Borderline and having the guys down to Reprezent Radio for an interview and acoustic session. With an LA tour planned for 2017 and follow up singles watch this space as Half Crown really hit their straps..
