Helen Jane Long became the first ever BILLION streaming pianist and composer in the world. She has released six award-winning piano albums with a seventh under way.
Helen has written extensively for film and television including BBC’s Ricky Gervais’ Life’s Too Short, Top Gear, Disney, Sky, Discovery, Netflix, Channel 4, ITV, National Geographic as well as composing music for some of the world’s most lucrative advertising brands. She was invited by Howard Shore to work as a part of the music team on The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
It was in 2006 as online music sharing began to take off, that Helen saw an opportunity to start testing her album music with a wider audience, via the newly launched American based platform Myspace. Her music was so well received, she submitted pieces to Warner Music. Within three days she had been offered a record deal.
“I was so shocked at being signed, that I walked out of the Warner London offices and crossed the road to meet my mum in the nearby coffee shop and nearly got hit by a car. It would have been the shortest ever record deal!â€
In 2011 whilst writing her third album, Intervention, British Airways hired her to compose for its extended cinematic commercial To Fly. To Serve, which was the centrepiece of its biggest and most expensive brand campaign in a decade. The Aviators generated so much international interest that her albums soared to the top of American Billboard. Her US fan base exploded along with the demand for live concerts and her career has gone from strength to strength.
“I didn’t realise until I was invited to perform in the US just how much I would get from it. I love the connection when I play live, it’s the best feeling in the worldâ€.
Helen’s signature sound is epic, cinematic and emotional. It is of no surprise that her first music video When Angels Rise, won “Best Inspirational Film†at the New York Film Awards and Los Angeles Global Film Awards.
Helen is also responsible for the music on that heart wrenching 2018 Christmas film, Love is a Gift, by Phil Beastall. With its storytelling of raw emotion, it captured the hearts of millions worldwide online and surpassed all marketing attempts made by brands such as John Lewis, Tesco, Marks and Spencer and Sainsburys to the No.1 Christmas advert spot.
While Helen’s professional endeavours have earned her an international reputation as a prolific composer and artist, here in the UK you may not know her by name, but you will have definitely heard her music many times. Enormously talented, extraordinarily kind, deeply devoted to her family and exceptionally engaged in the processes of composing and performing, it’s obvious that her lifelong devotion to her music and development of her craft has spawned the music that enhances and illuminates the world around us.
