HIPSWAY's last Smoke & Dreams show was a Sellout at The Barrowland and this one is set to do the same as The Glasgow Legends Headline a night with some up-and-coming homegrown young musicians - John Rush and his band; The Decadent Movement; and Young Indie rockers Petty Cassettes
With Honeythief, Hipsway achieved UK gold-album status.
The band performed on Top Of The Pops as Honeythief entered the top 20 both in the UK and later the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
Hipsway appeared with some of the biggest names including Eurythmics, and fellow Glaswegians Simple Minds as well as touring extensively over the years to an ever growing fanbase.
Intense workload and tensions within the band during this period led eventually to a split with bassist Johnny McElhone, who later formed Texas.
The remaining three members moved to New York to write and record the second album, Scratch the Surface, at the legendary Atlantic Studios.
Despite many requests to reform the band over the years, Skin never took them seriously until approached about the possibility of a deluxe album reissue.
Released on Cherry Red in November 2016, Skin and Pim were convinced to reunite and give their audience what they wanted.
the rest is history, with sell-out shows and tours up and down the country

JOHN RUSH
'Gold and Green' video (filmed in the Barrowland Ballroom): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtSGOvWKUPs
"Glasgow based singer/songwriter John Rush with his "folk tinged pop songs" has played some of Glasgow's greatest venues as well as some highly acclaimed support slots with the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Mark Morris (The Bluetones), Chris Helme (The Seahorses), Steve Pilgrim (Paul Weller Band) and Johnny Lloyd (Tribes).
2019 was a very exciting year for John Rush with the release of his debut album Beneath The Apple Tree, selling out his first headline show in Glasgow at Room 2 and also joining the 23 Music Management family.
John has set his sights on spreading his wings a little further afield this Summer with some festival shows dotted around the UK. Dates have also been pencilled in to release some new singles, an EP and ending the year with a new album that John has already began work on."
John Rush Reviews
Tenement TV -
Blessed with a distinctively rugged brogue and a deeply honest and open-hearted approach to song writing.
Music Files -
John's music makes us excited for the future… being reunited with friends and family, watching live music with a cold draft pint in hand and holidays abroad by the sea. It’s incredible how one track can allow its listeners to create such happy thoughts and memories but that’s the power of music and the beauty of John’s song writing talents.
Buzz Music -
Rush has natural and blissful sounding vocals that will make you feel instantly comfortable, he manages to capture a mood of grace and elegance with apparent ease.
Mill Magazine -
Among the most prolific singer/songwriters in the Country. With some allusions to the troubadour stylings of modern day folk stars such as Father John Misty and Conor Oberst, John's take on Americana strips away the biting sarcasm of artists such as the former and instead, focuses on heart-rending sincerity that can't help but strike a chord with your soul and psyche at once.
THE DECADENT MOVEMENT
Indie rockers The Decadent Movement formed in Glasgow in 2020 and hit the ground running. Things have moved fast for this relatively new band, receiving great attention from radio and podcasts. Debut single Glasgow's Burning laid down the band's statement of intent. Their lyrics reflect the real life experiences of the band, bringing a rawness that is relatable to so many of their listeners, dealing with issues like addiction, mental health, and street life. The band are currently working on their debut EP which will be released later this year.

"Blown away by these guys, a privilege to have on the show" - James Heaney, Camglen Radio
"As a radio presenter very few bands provide me with 'that moment' but The Decadent Movement certainly did" - Ali Love, Radio Skye
PETTY CASSETTES
Petty Cassettes are a true Scottish rock band. Their songs vary from energetic tunes to mellow ballads. Neck deep in their origins they are the soundtrack of choice for any party night. Influenced by different genres the result is an explosive mix of upbeat-indie-rock with many different shades. A song for every occasion especially for the ones that require a pint and a loud, dancing crowd. Recent single Sensitive Boy received encouraging feedback and radio play.
