Biography

Horacio Lavandera won the III Umberto Micheli International Piano Competition at age 16 in 2001 held at the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan. Since then he has given concerts in main halls such as Wigmore Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York, Berlin Philharmonie among others with great success of public and specialized critics. Critic Richard Dyer from Boston Globe wrote: “Lavandera offered a stupendous demonstration of rhythmic strength and subtlety, and play of color across the surface and through the depth of the music.”

His album dedicated to the music of Dino Saluzzi for the ECM label has been considered among the best 20 albums of 2015 by critic Ted Gioia (New York Times, Los Angeles Times). Colin Clarke from FANFARE MAGAZINE wrote: “His intelligence shines through everything he touches here.”

As conductor, Horacio Lavandera has created the Orquesta Clasica Argentina in 2017. With them he has played in the double role of director and soloist the Piano Concertos of Beethoven and the Piano Concertos of Chopin.

As TV presenter he created two shows in Argentina to promote contemporary music in relation with science: “Music and Science Nights” sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology in Argentina in the years 2012-2013. And “Building Bridges” sponsored by the Ministry of Education in Argentina in 2014.
