A master of blending genres and traversing broad tempo spectrums - Hywel’s sound is indefinable in rigid terms. But his colourful selections always share one common trait: the ability to inject a tangible energy into the dance floor. Soaking up the sounds of the UK’s underground free party scene as a teen, Hywel’s enthusiasm for collecting records kicked off with jungle and early dubstep. These influences are still clearly recognisable in his recent sets, along with an assortment of genres that Hywel has developed a keen interest in since. Breaks, acid, ambient, trance - his selections know no boundaries.
His move to Bristol in 2010 marked Hywel’s transition from collector to the club. Holding a residency at Motion, he gained international recognition supporting the likes of Groove Armada and Dusky. It was these experiences that led Hywel to start Eminent, a club night that Eminent pushes innovative dance music and has held nights in London, Bristol and Berlin.
Flying solo, Hywel had an eventful year post pandemic, playing Glastonbury and OFFSonar week, whilst also becoming a more regular face in Amsterdam. This past year he's played in iconic London venues The Cause, Venue MOT and many others. Now hosting Eminent's own show on Bristol-based SWU, as well as making guest appearances on Rinse France, Red Light Radio and Reprezent, Hywel is no stranger to taking control of the airwaves, and frequently collaborates with unique artists including Yung Singh, Dr Dubplate and Grove, permeating his own unconventional style into every encounter.
While continuing to evolve as a diverse musician, Hywel is now channeling his unique insights of the underground scene into his latest venture - Eminent Agency. Committed to providing music with passion and integrity, the agency also focuses on social responsibility, including topics such as mental health, diversity and climate change. Hywel’s dedication to better mental health in the music industry runs deep where past highlights included him speaking at ADE 2019.
