Biography

James Edward Jacob grew up in Lincoln, and by the age of ten already had his hands on a a set of decks and a mixer. Not content with traditional music lessons, but empowered by playing instruments, Jakwob was from very early on creating his own music, mainly concentrating his efforts on drums and piano.

Inspired by the sounds of Yorkshire based metalcore giants Bring Me The Horizon to begin his own metal band, Jakwob's musical influences proved to be wide and varied, later taking in the sounds of glitchy electronica of which his sisters boyfriend opened the door to. Experiments with computer music were the natural progression as his musical tastes expanded exponentially.

University proved to be a turning point, as he proceeded to put on his own night 'Wob' inspired by his exposure to dubstep. Preferring to stay in writing music than go out with his friends, Jakwob soon took the world of music blogging by storm, with a bootleg version of MIA's 'Pull Up The People' bringing him to the attention of the online music fraternity. A prolific run of remixes followed, with artists as varied as Jessie J, Robyn, Katie Melua, Audio Bullys and Temper Trap getting the Jakwob treatment.

Eventually, and it was only a matter of time really, Jakwob hit the big time with a stellar take on Ellie Goulding's 'Starry Eyed' which combined the bass sensibilities he'd been inspired by with ethereal vocal beauty, resulting in support from the mighty New Zealander Zane Lowe and 17 million Youtube views.

Before he knew it, his DJ bookings were chockablock and was being invited to play at a tonne of festivals around the UK including Glastonbury, which he said "was completely mind-blowing. I played in a giant pineapple in the Dance Village with a Funktion One sound system, surrounded by 2000 people going nuts. It blew me away. I intended to pop in and out but we parked the car next to the John Peel Stage and it stayed there until Tuesday morning.”

Now in more demand than ever, his remixes of Video games by Lana Del ray and his two massive DJ tours of America have risen his profile yet more. With his fervent work his album, and new tracks being teased ahead of its release, Jakwob is very much in the ascendancy, a true multi-talented, genre spanning artist that combines musical beauty with dancefloor deftness, all with a low end bass driven prowess that has hooked in fans from all over the globe. His record 'Fade' proved to be one of the highlights of 2013, resulting in winning the award for Best Deep Bass Single at the inaugural Bass Music Awards.
