Jean Dubé was a pupil of Jacques Rouvier at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris (CNSMP) and won first prize at the young age of 14. He also studied with Jacqueline Robin, Catherine Collard, and John O’Connor at the Royal Irish Academy. He also benefited from master classes with Dimitri Bashkirov, Lev Naumov, Oxana Yablonskaya, Rudult Buchbinder, Vladimir Krainev, Leslie Howard, and Murray Perahia.
He was a finalist in numerous international competitions, including the Bucarest, the Messiaen, the Orleans XXth Century, and the Ouistreham-Riva European competition. He won a triumphant first prize at the 2002 Franz Liszt International piano competition in Utrecht, as well as the prize from the public. When he was only nine years old he won the « Jeunes prodiges Mozart » competition, and the prize was a Steinway piano. In that same year he made his debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France in a live broadcast. His career took an international turn after the Liszt Competition. Since then he has been in demand on five continents and has been invited to participate in several International festivals – Busoni, Kuhmo, Husum, St Petersburgh, Kiev Musicfest, Chicago Myra Hess Series. He has performed with many international orchestras like the Philharmonisch Orkest, Netherlands, Radio Symphony Orkest, London Philharmonia, Orchestre National de Belgique, Philharmonique de St Petersburgh, Philharmonique de Radio France, Prague Chamber Orchestra, and under the baton of Hans GZraf, John Storgard, Paul Daniel. In Paris he often performs at the Salle Gaveau, the Invalides, Salle Cortot, Musée Jacquemart-André, Auditorium of the Musée d’Orsay, Cité de la Musique. He is regularly invited to participate in the big French festivals – Les Folles Journées de Nantes et du Japon, La Roque d’Anthéron, the Festival Chopin in Paris, Génération virtuoses in Antibes. An artist of barely 35, he has recorded some thirty CDs, principally under the Syrius and BNL labels. He is currently recording the whole of Liszt piano music for the CEA Musika label. His vast repertoire spans solo works, chamber music as well as orchestral works. He is one of the few pianists in the world who plays the Ligeti concerto. He also plays Messiaen’s Vingt regards sur l’enfant Jésus in a single recital. He is often invited to give masterclasses (FInland, Hungary, the netherlands, China, Hong Kong, Taïwan, Mexico, Ecuador, Ethiopia, South Africa), and to sit on the jury of international competitions (Città di Pinerolo 2004, Francis Poulenc 2008, Chang Chun 2009, Hong Kong 2015). Reviewers and critics are unanimous in saluting a unique pianist and one of the great artists of today. They have praised his musicality, his power, his intimate understanding of the works and of their composers, his phenomenal technique, and above all his capacity to move his public deeply.
