Biography

Jenny is a singer-songwriter from north east Scotland. Her passion for music lies in her interest in traditional folk song combined with the enjoyment of creating fresh new compositions. The inspiration for her lyrics comes from folklore, historical events and personal experience, and as a biologist her enthusiasm for nature creeps in to all her work.

Jenny most regularly plays as a duo with Jonny Hardie (Old Blind Dogs, Clype) on guitar and fiddle and also in a line up with Jonny, Davy Cattanach (Catford, Old Blind Dogs, Up in the Air) on percussion and Grant Anderson (Brothers Reid) on double bass.

In addition to recording her new album 'From the skein', Jenny is involved in several projects including working as a music workshop facilitator in primary schools, collaborating with Aberdeen based artist and fabric designer Helen Ruth and writing music for a celebration of the Isle of May National Nature Reserve. Earlier this year Jenny co-ordinated a songwriting project in conjunction with FitLike Records called 'Even in Winter', for which female musicians from different genres wrote songs inspired by the women of Aberdeen. The wonderful compilation featuring 12 origional tracks can be found here.

Jenny has featured on numerous albums and is currently working alongside Simon Gall and Jonny Hardie as a guest with Clype and on their recent album recorded two songs, one of her own 'Fair Drawin' In' and a collaboration with Simon 'Red Tide'. This album has received critical acclaim and extensive radio play.
