J.J. Mejlak aka Jewel Kid was born in Malta on the 7th of September 1986.
He started djing professionally at the tender age of fourteen playing in big events such as the tribu festival, trigger and lovesexy which made him Malta’s youngest and fastest growing professional DJ on the island. By the age of 16 he was already resident in Malta’s best known clubs - Barcode – Brass Monkey – Amazonia – Rum Jungle and Peppermint.
To date, Jewel Kid has played alongside big name Dj’s such as Todd Terry, Deep Dish, Roger Sanchez, Sasha, James Zabiela, Carl Cox, Ralph Lawson, Tim Deluxe, Erick Morillo, Harry “choo choo” Romero, Who Da Funk, Ian Pooley, Narcotic Trust, Felix the House cat, Dj Sneak, Dave Clark, Deadmau5 and the list goes on.
By the age of 18 Jewel Kid entered into the music production foray and within two short years he has now signed material on internationally renowned labels such as Cr2, Nervous, Proton, Fektive, Presslab, Apple Jaxx, Coraza, Seqsoul, Christian Music and Digital Jaxx, with his productions being plugged by superstar dj’s such as Danny Tenaglia, Oscar G and Carl Cox. His work has been also included on leading compilations such as Oscar G: Live @ Space Miami, Cr2 Live & Direct: Ibiza 2008, Chus & Ceballos: Blended Sound 002 and La Rocca: Better than ever.
In 2006 Jewel Kid established his best residency ever at Malta’s No.1 underground club, Clique and is now the Headlining Dj every Saturday, keeping the dancefloor rammed until well into Sunday daylight.
The year 2007 saw Jewel Kid winning the Carl Cox Worldwide Remix Competition for Best House Remix which then reached the No.3 position on Beatport’s Top 100 House Chart.
He’s already one of the top local talents and still only 22 years old, yet Jewel Kid has tons of projects to come and is set to rock the world. Without a doubt, this is not the last time you will hear his name.
