Biography

Kate grew up in South East London, England. As far back as she can remember, her parents filled the family home with music at any given moment. On weekends, after school, in the evenings - whenever the four children were at home. They would inspire Kate and her siblings to dance, sing and embrace their music collection, from reggae, pop, to blues and rock.

As Kate reached her teens there was no question she was an indie kid. Her love for bands like Suede, Oasis, Blur and Pulp was clear to see and by the age of fifteen, she’d already gone to her first Festival.

By the late 90's, Kate was surrounded by electronic music lovers. She would envy her bedroom boy DJ friends as she sat and watched them play vinyl for hours on end. Her elder sister began taking her clubbing at the age of just sixteen. Her eyes were opened to the London underground music scene immediately. After becoming a regular on the clubbing circuit in London, followed by her first trip to Ibiza at the age of 20, her love for House music was cemented.

It wasn’t until 2004, when she could finally afford to buy some decks of her own, and make continuous mix tapes for her friends and family, that she was approached by an acquaintance who had just opened a bar in south east London and was asked to DJ there. The rest they say is history.

Since she burst into the UK’s consciousness back in 2004, Kate has worked harder than most at getting the world to sit up and take notice. Her relentless, never let them knock you down approach to work is the contributing factor to her meteoric rise.

Successfully building herself a reputation as one of the leading female DJs in the country, by 2006, Kate held a residency at DJ Mag’s number 1 club in the world Sankeys, Manchester. She’s now rocked the UK’s top clubbing venues from Pacha, The Cross, Ministry of Sound and Turnmills in London, to The Arches in Scotland, Garlands in Liverpool and Lush in Ireland.

Versatile, inventive, energetic and passionate, she’s kicked it alongside dance floor legends such as Sebastien Leger, Andy Chatterley, Nic Fancuilli, James Zabelia, Martijn Ten Velden and Deep Groove, impressing promoters and fellow DJs with her infectious style.

Whether it’s house or techno that she’s playing, if you’ve ever seen Kate DJ, you’ll know that she’s as much a part of the crowd as she is maestro of the music.

With her profile exploding at home, it was only a matter of time before the international stage sat up and took notice. 2008 saw Kate launch an exciting and extensive world tour in the South American hotbed of Brazil, the massive Asia market, down under in Australia, across the length and breadth of Europe and of course the hub of dance music - Ibiza. Clocking up the air miles, this was without question, what saw her establish an army of fans on every continent.

And it’s not just in the clubs where Kate shares her love for music. In between her full time job as a weekday Radio DJ, she's been hard at work in the studio creating mind-blowing productions.

With the huge success and rave reviews of her 3 Track debut EP "Screw You" signed to Toolroom Records, and a heap of UK dates that she toured with it, she’s gained experience and skills to launch her own record label Framed Records in December 2010. This will comprise of Kate's own sought after productions as well as some big names remixing for her. It will also be used as a platform for showcasing brand new music productions from up-coming DJ's in the UK today.

Add to all of the above her monthly residency on the world famous PVD VONYC radio show in 2009, it’s easy to see how Kate’s reputation has grown at a phenomenal rate.

Producing, presenting, at home or abroad behind the decks, Kate Lawler is one of the hardest working and down to earth DJ’s in the UK today. She adores her job, cannot imagine her world without music and 2011 is sure to be an even bigger and better year for Kate.
