Laish means The Tribe of Dan. This is Daniel Green’s tribe music. Green, originally a solo performer moved to Brighton four years ago and has since been making himself very useful amongst the Willkommen Collective, a central part of the alternative folk scene by putting on shows and lending a musical hand to the likes of Sons of Noel and Adrian, Shoreline, Alessi’s Ark and even Laura Marling.
The debut album, a fuzzy home baked affair received some rather ecstatic reviews and having toured extensively across the UK and Europe, Laish are gradually building a reputation for intimate, soulful, inventive and memorable live shows. This band like nothing more than to unplug and harmonise right up in your face. These songs are at once of regret and longing and yet strangely warming and uplifting. You’ll see.
Currently the band features Emma Gatrill (vocals, clarinet and accordion), Patrick Lawrence (bass) and The Ben Gregory on electric guitar and vocals.
“Very special indeed” – Whisperinandhollerin 8/10
“This is real, beautiful, honest, gracious and just plain wonderful music” 9/10 – The Blue Walrus
The band has so far shared stages with the likes of Mumford and Sons, Jason Lytle, Castanets, Jonquil, David Thomas Broughton, Liz Green, Rachael Dadd, Rozi Plain, The Leisure Society, The Mariner’s Children, Sons of Noel and Adrian, Mary Hampton, Richard Dawson and played various festivals including Brighton Festival, Melting Vinyl, Foxtrot, Union Chapel, Big Chill
