Following 3 EPs and debut album River (Bristol Live Magazine's album of the month), Cheung’s second album ‘Moon’ was released for Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival 2015 at her first Mini Moon Festival at the Fleece, Bristol. Her singles have featured on stations across the globe, and her radio play to date includes BBC 1Xtra and BBC Introducing in the West.
Recent performances have included Bristol Harbourside Festival, Bristol Museum’s Chinese New Year Celebrations, headlining International Women’s Day gig at The Attic Bar, Bristol, and headlining opening night of Jelli Fest 2017. Cheung performed many headline and main stage slots previously, including Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, Redfest, Keynsham Festival and Bristol Harbourside Festival, and other performances include Upfest, Shambala, Dot to Dot, Redfest, Brisfest, and St Paul’s Carnival.
Cheung’s solo artist endeavour began in 2012, following a few years in a duo and featuring on local Hip-Hop and Grime tracks. Makala’s influences include Banks, FKA Twigs, M.I.A, and Aaliyah, to name a few. Frequently referred to as reminiscent of Kate Bush, Makala is also a Culture Ambassador (West of England China Bureau), Bristol Woman cover girl (launch edition) and one of Bristol’s first Happiness Champions.
