Modu Heart resident DJ, Mark Sweeney aka MAL_HOMBRE fell in love with the sound of Techno music way back in 1990 during the beginning of the rave days and early Belgian and German electronic sounds. Always fascinated by the presence and the technical sound of a DJ at work, the first thing he would look for after entering a club was the DJ. A self-confessed train spotter, Mark was always the person up at the DJ booth watching the DJ to try and pick up the skills. Fascinated by this new musical phenomenon he purchased a pair of Technics 1210's in 1991 to which he still has to this very day.
20+ years of DJing commenced, from cutting his teeth at under 18 school discos in the very early 90's, to gigs in more prolific Techno clubs in Glasgow such as Club 69 spanning Techno to Rave to Breakbeat to House, then back to his first love Techno and the techier sounds of house. In the 2000's this led to a series of residencies under his own name in his hometown in Glasgow, all of which ultimately faded out as another career in which he was studying, was embarked upon. This career then took him to Central America for 5 years. During this time digital revolution made the music more accessible wherever he was in the world. He launched his own events Diabla Techno nights on the Dutch Caribbean Island of Curacao, of which a Techno scene is still going today, and so the hunger was back once more.
