“Something of an instant hit at Lamacq towers…it hits you immediately right from the opening lines…if that doesn’t suggest someone with a taste of songwriting imagination I don’t know what does.”
- Steve Lamacq, BBC 6Music
Man & The Echo reveal video for new single ‘Vile as You Want’, released on 1965 Records on 11th March 2016
On new single ‘Vile As You Want’ Man & The Echo skewer the ridiculousness of modern life over a background of 60s-inspired pop-rock. Beneath those charming melodies lies front man Gaz Robert’s sharp political wit. The track has so far picked up plays from 6Music’s Steve Lamacq, Radio 2’s Janice Long and Radio X’s John Kennedy who the band will be performing a session for. Joe 'Fush' Forshaw, the bands co-writer, says of the video, "Some of the children’s TV shows from the seventies Britain are pretty dark when you watch them back. We're huge fans of things like Reeves & Mortimer and Charlie Brooker and wanted to create our own sinister take on an institution and period before the introduction of political correctness. Plus, now we can add puppetry to our growing list of vital skills required to be in a band in 2016."
In 2015 Man & The Echo released three singles, toured relentlessly and made festival appearances at The Isle of Wight festival and alongside Billy Bragg at Glastonbury, as well as being invited to play live on Radio 4’s Loose Ends. They received critical praise for their first offerings and in particular their second single ‘All Right’ which was supported again by Steve Lamacq on 6Music and was made Absolute Radio’s ‘Single of the Week, of the Year.’ Their third single might have had a bit more radio play if it didn’t contain 25 uses of the word “fuck”.
2016 promises to be even busier for the 4-piece, who are currently holed up in their Warrington headquarters working on their debut album with highly sought producer Neil Comber (Django Django, M.I.A).
Man & The Echo are Gaz Roberts, Joe Forshaw, Joey Bennett and Chris Gallagher. They will be playing at The Waiting Room, London on 14th March, Manchester’s AATMA on 19th March and have just been announced for The Great Escape Festival. More dates to be announced soon.
