Biography

Mark Nevin came to prominence in the late 80’s as the founding member, guitarist and songwriter of Fairground Attraction, with whom he enjoyed the number 1 single ‘Perfect’ and multi-platinum album, ‘First of a Million Kisses’. They also won 2 Brit awards. Twice nominated for the prestigious Ivor Novello songwriting award, he went on to collaborate as co-writer to Morrissey (scoring 4 top 20 singles), Kirsty MacColl and Lloyd Cole. His songs have been covered, among many others, by David Bowie, Joe Cocker and Ringo Starr. In 1999 he made the move to the centre of the stage and has since produced 4 solo albums; ‘Insensitive Songwriter’ (1999), ‘The Mighty Dove’ (1996), ‘Stand Beside Me In The Sun’ (2011) and his latest, ‘Beautiful Guitars’ (2014). Each album marks a milestone in the growth of his confidence and the honing of his unique narrative style. Nevin has been developing his live performances and whether solo, with his band, or as part of some impressive bills, he remains uniquely himself. Mark has a brilliant live band which features fellow Fairground Attraction musicians, master of the vibraphone, Roger Beaujolais, Simon Edwards on bass and Richard Marcangelo on drums.

‘Mark Nevin is definitely still here, writing and singing better than ever… whisper it but ‘Beautiful Guitars’ is indeed ‘perfect’ …and then some’ (ACOUSTIC MAGAZINE) ‘If there is any justice, it will finally deliver him the success he warrants in his own right’ (R & R MAGAZINE) ‘How can you not love Mark E Nevin…? Beautiful Guitars is a fabulous album, full of original ideas and equally original execution. What more do you want?’ (FOLKING.COM) ‘Spirited, solidly crafted and warmly conceived’ (UNCUT) ‘Nevin deserves much wider recognition’ (Q MAGAZINE – 4 stars) ‘a gem… absolutely lovely’ (BOB HARRIS, BBC RADIO2)
