Biography

A review of the 'Voids EP' by David Mariam -

'Stoke-on-Trent based band Moral Panics recently recorded their latest EP ‘Voids’. The aggressive pop band is made up of just three members and together they create a nice blend of indie infused instrumental sounds and strong echo driven vocals.

Straight away you are introduced to the distinct vocals of lead singer Daniel Johnson on the opening track ‘Voids’.

What is quite unique about this band is their style of music. The actual instrumental side of things seems to be quite indie styled focused with ear pleasing guitar jangle melodies. The vocals on the other hand aren’t. It is this feature that puts this group just that much above the other bands and makes them not only more recognisable but also more memorable.

Even though there are only three tracks it is enough for them to get what they are about and their style across. The music flows really well and each band member seems to work well off one other. This is very good to have as it truly makes the music more honest and not so forced.

It was hard to choose a favourite song as each one brought something slightly different to the table. However the strongest track on it had to be ‘Breathe’, it not only contained catchy riffs and lyrics but it also held a lot of passion within the song just making it stand out from the rest.

Overall it is a great EP, it’s not only enjoyable to listen to but it deserves to be listened to. Definitely take the time to check these guys out, it is clear that these guys are pretty talented and with the right exposure they could go far. If you are in or around Stoke-on-Trent on December 17th make sure you get yourself down to The Sugarmill to see this very talented band.

Rating: 9/10'
