Biography

Nancy Jones is an acclaimed American concert pianist who has performed across the U.S. and Europe. Like many of the celebrated major pianists of the 20th century, Nancy is a direct pedagogical descendent of Franz Liszt and his pupils. She has won numerous international and national piano competitions, including being the only person to win the Richard R. Deas Concerto Competition twice.

Nancy has performed as part of the American Institute of Musical Studies concert series in Graz, Austria and studied at the Conservatoire de Musique Vevey-Montreux-Riviera. Nancy has completed piano performance degrees at UNCG and UNCW and participated in masterclasses with Barbara Bonney, Alan Smith, Harold Heiburg, and Walter Moore. She was also a recipient of a research fellowship for her work on a critical edition of a Liszt manuscript at Yale University.

Nancy is also an accomplished mezzo soprano, vocal coach, and conductor. She is an active oratorio performer and has enjoyed performing operatic roles such Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus with UNC-WOOP. Recent conducting projects include collaborating with MET opera conductor, Steven White, as the Associate Conductor and Chorus Master for Opera Roanoke’s production of Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. Nancy also served as the music director and conductor in addition to singing a lead role in the world premiere of the staged oratorio (Be)longing at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech in 2017. Nancy has resided on the music faculty at Virginia Tech for many years teaching piano and advanced theory.
