Nausika is Frouke van Es, singer-songwriter and vocal coach from The Netherlands. As Nausika, which literally translates into ‘burner of ships’, her music investigates the choice between lingering and moving on. November 2014 saw the release of debut EP “Groom the Monster”.
Nausika sounds filmic and ethereal, yet determined. Unconventional, layered and complex but armed with recognisable song-structures and strong female vocals that keep lingering long after they have been silenced. Oceans of wailing sirens evoke images of abandoned roads, dark bottomless ponds and desolate mountain views. Impending doom never seems far away in Nausika’s land of perpetual twilight and occasional subterranean eruptions.
Influences:
Radiohead, Ane Brun, Tori Amos, 16 horsepower, London Grammar, Olafur Arnalds, Chelsea Wolfe, Massive Attack, The Gathering, Johnny Hollow, Clint Mansell, Portishead, Philip Glass, Erik Satie, 30 Seconds to Mars.
