Nomadic Rituals are a heavy 3-piece Sludge/Doom band from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Current and only members consist of Craig Carson (Bass/Vocals/Synth), Peter Hunter (Guitar/Vocals/Synth) and Mark Smyth (Drums/Samples). Formed in July 2012 by Craig, the band started writing and gigging, when they released 3 self-recorded tracks that became their demo "DFWG". This was followed up with the recording of a full-length album in late March 2013 with Niall Doran at Start Together Studios, Belfast. Released in September of that year, "Holy Giants" garnered a number of very positive reviews and was described as "a stunning debut that any fan of doom metal should seriously consider owning" and "an absolute belter of a record. A gargantuan slab of primitive and filthy sounding Sludge/Doom".
Gigging continued after release of the album, and the increasing attention received by the band opened up opportunities for shows further afield. Writing also continued, and the band returned to Start Together Studios to work with Niall Doran on the recording of "The Great Dying". This was released in late February 2015 as a split 12" vinyl along with fellow local Doom band Tome. The artwork for the release was also a collaboration between the two bands; drawn by Tome's Matt Salters, designed by Nomadic Rituals' Craig Carson, and screen printed by the bands themselves. The release received a number a very favourable reviews, being called "seriously unsettling hellish fucking doom metal..........It's heavy, well-crafted and one of the best sludge pieces I've heard in a long while" and "a nearly 15 minute epic that takes the listener on an unsettling trip through their thick bass filth".
Further gigging and a lengthy period of writing followed, after which the band returned to Start Together Studio to record their second full length album ‘Marking the Day’ in late March 2016. As with the first two releases, the artwork and packaging for the new album will be created, designed and screen printed by the band themselves. Release date is set for the 17th February 2017.
