Whoever said ‘it’s grim up north’ has yet to tune their ears to audio delights from production and DJ outfit Northern Lights. With recent outputs in and around their home ground of 170bpm as well as new ventures into slower tempos, notably dubstep, the duo’s signature upfront dancefloor sound has been nothing but well received by both stalwarts spearheading said scenes and fans alike.
Comprising of award-winning DJ and label-boss of Audio Warfare, DJ Steppa, as well as fellow Northerner, rising talent Kitcha, their collaboration over the past three years has seen them steadily build and expand upon their established respective careers within drum and bass, shaping a hearty back-catalogue of releases under their new alias; including chart-topping bangers championed by the likes of Congo Natty, Liquid V, SGN:LTD and Grid Recordings.
Continuing to spread their infectious sound across dancefloors worldwide, this month also sees the release of their new EP ‘They Made Us Do It’, boasting four heavyweight cuts exploring – unexpectedly for some – the realms of 140bpm. Quickly picked up by True Tiger and with the lead track ‘Loonology’ debuting as a world exclusive on dubstep dons’ Skream and Benga’s BBC Radio 1 slot, Northern Lights’ are representing true to their namesake, as shining stars amongst the British electronic music scene.
