James Galloway aka Nothing To Lose began his music career at 15 when he bought his first pair of direct drive turntables. Playing at house parties, he honed his skills until he reached 17 and won his first (of many) DJ competition at The Old Fat Cat in Southampton.
At 18, he moved to Guildford and achieved a distinction in his Higher National Diploma in DJ Skills and Music Production at the Academy of Contemporary Music. It was here he learned the to record vocalists and remix tunes professionally, as well as the business side of things like running a night or label.
After moving to Manchester at the age of 19, James quickly found himself playing regularly on radio shows and at the popular local nights, Hit & Run and Metropolis and started the University of Manchester Drum n Bass Society (UMDNB). When he left university, it was the 3rd largest society in the university (with over 900 members) after the Islamic and Christian Societies.
Since then, James’ career has gone from strength to strength. Under the moniker James G, he played at The Warehouse Project, Innovation in The Sun, Sunbeatz Festival, ran, as part of a team, his own night Oh My God (largest monthly DnB night in Manchester) for 5 years and was DnB and Dubstep resident at Sankeys (at the time voted #1 club in the world, now sadly closed) for 3 years, James has played with such incredible acts as De La Soul, Jazzy Jeff, DJ Kentaro, Andy C, Pendulum, Chase & Status, Skream & Benga, Subfocus, Friction, Nero, Borgore, Plastician, Doctor P, Flux Pavillion, Funtcase, Shy FX, Fabio & Grooverider, Dirtyphonics Live, Goldie and Ed Rush & Optical. The list is absolutely endless and these are just some of the highlights.
Going on just before or after some of his absolute heroes really helped him raise his game and it wasn’t long before he was considered one of the leading support DJ’s in Manchester and the North West.
When a business partner acted in a way that he felt compromised the integrity of the night he had been promoting for 5 years, in 2012 he quit promotion and allowed DJing to take a back seat in order to concentrate on his main love, which is creating music for people to dance to.
His ethos now as Nothing To Lose is to work with the most talented vocalists, MC’s, beatboxers and musicians in Manchester and create unique music that marries passionate performances to cleverly thought out beats, bass and synths.
Signed to Audio Animals, the new label that has everyone talking, James’s debut single, Running Out of Time, catapulted to the top of the Dubstep Charts scoring Audio Animals their first #1 and at one point breaking the top 30 of any track of any genre for the week.
The future is bright for Nothing To Lose. Prepare to hear a lot more unique music from him and the fantastic array of live musicians he works with. For bookings contact ntlbookings@gmail.com
