With a string of well received releases and a well-honed four-deck smelting selector skill under his hat before he’s even legally able to enter a club, Ownglow has already achieved some very impressive feats.
Son of a nurse and football coach, raised on a strict diet of Dixie Chicks and The Beach Boys, Sam Reeves’ impressive feats go back even further: Prior to making big musical moves, the Montana-born artist was already an accomplished graphic designer, creating brand logos and icons for companies and bodies to commission at the age of 14.
His skills now fully locked into music production – to the point he’s quit school and upped sticks from Arizona to live in D&B’s UK motherland – the 17 year old is now experiencing the same creative flux with his beats. Brandishing a sonic dynamic that belies his age, Sam’s respect for jungle heritage has been abundant in every production since he emerged in 2012 with a series of free downloads.
Fresh from receiving direct props from S.P.Y in a 2014 Hospital Records remix competition, Sam caught the attention of Pilot Records, the label run by UKF founder Luke Hood. Releasing the bright, breezing jazz funk rollers Gold and Tension in December 2015, Pilot are set to release more of Ownglow’s unique creations in the new year. Expect heaps more impressive feats from this exciting young American very soon…
